Why does my cat stop eating?

Have you ever noticed that a cat that likes to eat suddenly stopped eating? A common cause for cats to stop eating is illness. You can continue to observe him for a day to see whether he like to eat this food or not. If he still hasn't eaten after a day, you'd better take your cat to the vet to determine the specific cause. This article will introduce you several common reasons.

1. Diseases of the respiratory system

Diseases of the respiratory system can affect cats' sense of smell and appetite. When your cat can't smell the food and has no appetite, then he will stop eating.

2. Dental problems

You can open the cat’s mouth to see if the cat has gum problems. Painful teeth will not allow cats to eat. You should also look for lumps and unpleasant odors on the cat’s tongue, because these are oral problems that can cause the cat not to eat.

3. Invasion of foreign objects

Some cats like to eat something indigestible, causing these foreign bodies to remain in the stomach. In the end, cats can only expel these foreign bodies through vomiting. When the cat vomits, it will cause the cat's loss of appetite and then the cat to stop eating.

4. Diabetes

Although the appetite of cats with early diabetes is very good, as the diabetes becomes more and more serious, the cat has no appetite at all. If your cat is middle-aged or old and has a good appetite before, you should consider whether diabetes is affecting the cat's eating.
