How to clean the ears of a dog

Like humans, dogs’ ears are prone to dirt. If your dog likes to swim, you should clean their ears more to avoid ear infections caused by this dirt. It is generally recommended to clean your dog’s ears once a month.

Please do not use cotton swabs to clean the ears of dogs, because the cotton swabs may cause perforation of the dog’s eardrum or the risk of trauma to the ear canal. In addition, the cotton swabs are also very easy to push dirt further into the ear canal. All you need is a high-quality ear cleaner and some cotton balls. Here are some specific details of cleaning dog ears

1. Let the dog sit in front of you, let one side of the dog lean against the wall, and you sit on the other side of him.

2. Gently hold the dog's ear flap with one hand, and hold the ear cleaner with the other hand.

3. Squeeze some ear cleaner into your dog's ears to completely fill the ear canal

4. Continue to support the ear flap with one hand, and gently massage the base of the ear under the ear hole with the other hand for about 30 seconds.

5. Let your dog shake. You may need to bring a towel between you and your dog so that you are not splashed.

6. Lift the ear flap again and take a soft cotton ball with your hand to wipe off any remaining cleanser. The depth of your fingers into the ear canal should not be deeper than your first knuckle.

During the cleaning process, if your dog has any discomfort, please stop cleaning and consult your local veterinarian.
